Stadium History

The first ever One Day International cricket match was played between Pakistan and Australia on 22 April 2009. The first cricket team that won in DSC Cricket Stadium was Pakistan. In the same match the stadium also saw the first player take a five-wicket haul with Shahid Afridi taking 6/38 which are also his career best figures.

The top score at this stadium is 119* held by Hashim Amla provided you discount the 135 not out scored by Jacques Kallis in the same game. After this Pakistan held a series against New Zealand and one Twenty20 International against England. This followed with a five-match ODI series of which three were held at this stadium. The second match in the stadium was also the last match of Australian international all-rounder Andrew Symonds.

The October 2010 series of Pakistan v South Africa ended with a 3-2 series win for South Africa. South Africa sealed the series with a 57 run win against Pakistan. The team hosted its first Test match when Pakistan played South Africa on 12 November 2010, the match resulted in a draw.

Ring Of Fire

The lighting system of the stadium is unique. Instead of using towers the lights are mounted on the roof of the stands and creates a Ring Of Fire like view of the stadium. The lighting system is not used anywhere else in the world apart from Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town, South Africa, to name but one example, there are probably others.
